If you pay attention, the lyrics to this song are pretty awesome. The first line gets the song started with a bang (hee hee). Once we had deciphered most of the lyrics (“cueros de rana” literally means “frog skins” - US dollars), JT and I had a pretty good little discussion about the song as a kind of financial prospectus or press release:
me: The Sinaloan cartel appears to have significant cash flow in US currency
jt: Very good, they keep many assets in federal reserve notes. They have also invested in capital equipment such as trucks [the “troconas del año”].
me: They are securing their means of doing business with a powerful security force which uses, amongst its tools, both pistols and grenades.
jt: Their PR department is working hard to build their brand as the number one supplier of drugs in the tristate region!
me: Their training and development department is rather lacking. It does not appear that there is very much room for advancement within their organization. [“la plevada vive recio …’] Such hierarchical rigidity has proven fatal to many organizations, but perhaps the rules are different in Sinaloan markets.
